Using Templates in True Sky

Template Management Feature

One of the best things about using the budgeting and forecasting software True Sky, is that the software is designed with the general user in mind – not just finance people.

This means that True Sky works the way the average user thinks. Instead of operating on confusing jargon or difficult accounting concepts, the system is intuitive and easy to operate for any department while still satisfying the finance department’s needs.

This prioritization of ease of use extends to the True Sky templates users can use and build. Here are a few of the advantages True Sky’s templates can offer businesses. For more on templates and True Sky’s other features, visit our video library.

Easily switch between templates with a single click.

Depending on their permissions and job function, users will see different budgets assigned to them in their Assignment bar on the sidebar of their screen, under “My Assignments.”

Clicking on one of the budgets will open that template – so, for example, if you clicked on the budget called “Product Sales,” you’ll bring up that template on your screen.

You’ll also see a sidebar with whatever filters your company has set up.

True Sky supports:

  • Lists
  • Trees
  • Hierarchies
  • Multiple currencies
  • Unlimited number of budget versions

By selecting the filter you need, you can access the data you want. Then, when you want to look at another data set – maybe you want to see sales numbers for another product group – you simply change the selection using a filter and the template changes for you.

There’s no need to:

  • Open a separate file
  • Build additional templates
  • Spend time trying to locate the info you need in a massive spreadsheet

Data is saved into your templates in real time, no matter who is inputting the information.

Since most businesses that use True Sky have multiple users or multiple locations that all use the True Sky database, you need to be able to see and access the changes that other users are making in your template.

True Sky does this in real time by sending changes to the server. Here, those changes are written into the system at large. This is as opposed to being only saved in the actual spreadsheet, which just one or several users would be able to see.

This way, any user who has permission to view and/or edit a particular template will be able to instantly retrieve the data that any other user has input. No more emailing individual spreadsheets back and forth – instead, they’re all available in a single, central location.

Easily manage templates from the Administrative Portal.

True Sky is able to be implemented and maintained by the finance team, rather than requiring expensive and time-consuming assistance from IT, like with your old budgeting software.

To this end, True Sky’s template management feature from the Administrative Portal allows users with administrative permissions to manage and control their company’s:

  • Templates
  • Filters
  • Assignments
  • Permissions etc

There’s no need to call in IT when you need to create a new template or edit an existing one.

Use controls and rules to validate your data up-front.

Budget administrators can set controls or rules for their templates that will decrease the likelihood of typos or the use of invalid formats.

For example, let’s say you’re that same sales manager from before who was looking at your Product Sales data for a blender that your company sells. You write a formula for one of your templates that includes a fraction – ⅔.

Well, the administrator has put in a rule that says you can’t use fractions. After all, you can’t sell ⅔ of a blender. Because of that, True Sky won’t allow you to use that faulty formula.

This will save you a great deal of time, as the system calls your attention to the problem as soon as you make the entry. This way, you will simply amend the formula, rather than using it to calculate a whole column of numbers before realizing afterward that it doesn’t make sense.

True Sky can help businesses of all sizes and industries, whether they use an annual budgeting process, driver-based budgeting, or rolling forecasting. If you’d like to learn more about True Sky, contact us!
